Taxi and Tours Jamaica Exciting Community Tours
Get
off the North Coast and head into the interior-
explore a Jamaican town where tourists are a rare sight.
Once
you head into the interior, you are heading
into the hills and valleys where Jamaica looks very
different from the typical holiday advertising photographs
that plaster the walls of travel shops. Many say that
this is the real Jamaica.
Brown's
Town is a major Jamaican commercial centre,
easily accessible. It's a typical Jamaican town, with
a thriving market. Many repeat guests, those in the
know, take their villa staff up to Brown's Town where
all fresh fruit and vegetables can be purchased at much
lower prices than in Duncans, where "tourist prices"
are the order of the day.
Your
driver will make short stops for photographing
and sightseeing at the following places:

CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS - DISCOVERY BAY Historic Tour
The
re-known optimist Christopher Columbus from Italy,
made Discovery Bay, Jamaica, a part of history by landing
there in 1494 as he continued his second voyage to the
West Indies.

Some
of the scenery he saw then remains in the coastal
community five centuries later, in 1999.
When
Columbus landed, he described the place as "the
fairest isle that eyes have beheld, mountains and sky,
all full of valleys and fields and plains".
The
explorer who journeyed from Spain, named the
sleepy North Coast village, Dry Harbour, because "though
a good place to take shelter against a storm, it had no
fresh water".
There
is still no fresh water in Discovery Bay and
it still has a harbour, but things have changed for the
better since those early days.
Kaiser
Bauxite Company has moved in and helped to inject
life in the sleepy village. The pier, located at its northern
entrance, has had ships coming to the island for the bauxite
produced by the company at the Discovery Bay plant located
on top of a hill overlooking the village.
When
Columbus came, he saw Arawaks and Amerindian
villages. Possessed with a sense of humour, he remarked
that he saw "so many Arawaks the earth seemed to
have been covered with them".
Discovery
Bay no longer has Arawaks but there are several
races of people living in the area. The population has
grown over the years and the only school in the area is
a testimony to this.

The
Spanish settlers founded Martha Brae Village
as a way station to and from the northwest coast of
the island. It was one of the few Spanish settlements
that survived the British conquest in 1655, not that
the British had deliberately set out to destroy any
of the existing Spanish villages.
Martha
Brae Village was simply left alone when the
British began to settle the colony. Its close proximity
to Martha Brae River made transportation cheap and relatively
easy, and one of the first official tasks of the Town
Council of Trelawny in 1772 was to clear the river of
obstructions, so that boats and barges could safely
navigate its waters. This highlighted the importance
of the river.

the water to make the water glow in the dark. Those
who wish can swim in the luminous waters as well. (The
lagoon is about is about 4-5 feet deep at the center.)

The
legendary Rose Hall is the most famous great
house on Jamaica. The subject of at least a dozen Gothic
novels, it was immortalized in the H. G. deLisser book, White Witch of Rose Hall. The house was built
from 1778 to 1790 by John Palmer, a wealthy British planter.
At its peak, this was a 2,640-hectare (6,600-acre) plantation,
with more than 2,000 slaves.
However,
it was Annie Palmer, wife of the builder's grandnephew,
who became the focal point of fiction and fact. Annie was
said to have murdered several of her husbands while they
slept and eventually suffered the same fate herself.

H’EVANS SCENT is located 2000 feet up in the hills of St. Ann, boasts breath taking views, exhilarating activities, and down to earth homeliness. Our birds, Rabbits and Mr.Grunter (our pig) will be on hand also to welcome you.
The tour last for 2-3 hours. On arrival you are greeted with an ice cold natural fruit delight in a Bamboo or Coconut cup.
After orientation spend 10 minutes with Mama TunTun – she knows all about herbs and their benefits, most people in the communities go to her as an alternative to the doctor; she will explain that some things can be bought from your local health shop. After this session everyone signs a disclaimer and health declaration form.
Harnessing then takes place, and you are off on your first Zip. The climb is 30 feet in the air using the staircase or the outside staples whilst attached to a belay rope. From the platform you zip 440 feet across the valley, where catchers are waiting to remove you from the line.
Zip number 2 is a bit more challenging; there are no stairs so you must climb up the staples on the outside of the pole whilst attached to a safety line. Then you free fall for 12 feet before you travel forward on the line for about 40 feet and you then alight from the middle.
At the end of each zip you can leisurely walk back to the base via numerous tracks flanked by lush tropical flora, and relax in a hammock on route.
ATV – Then it is onto the 4 wheel bike ride.
Our ATV track is a safe place to master your riding skills and once proficient you can attempt to beat the track time and pick up a certificate.
After all the excitement, you will be on your bus or coach, for a ‘get to know the locals’ with a Scavenger Hunt. You will leaving the comfort of your seat and chat with the local people on route, if only to ask at the yellow and purple shop, ‘what is the cost of fresh fish?’.
